Environmentally friendly
As a traditional Swiss family business with more than 180 years of history behind us, we prioritise Swiss ingredients wherever possible, ensuring they are of the highest possible quality and produced in an environmentally friendly way. By maintaining close connections with the local community and using energy-efficient production processes, we minimise our carbon footprint.
Socially responsible
We are committed to ensuring fair and safe working conditions and reasonable prices, both in Switzerland and abroad, today and in the future. We act in accordance with a strict code of ethics. Wherever we work with partners, a binding code of conduct guarantees observance – transparent, detailed and verifiable.
Economical
In our production and marketing stages, we set ourselves specific targets to avoid food waste and reduce our use of plastic. We consistently prioritise recycled or recyclable materials – both for our packaging and in the production process.
Health
We believe our exceptionally delicious treats should be enjoyed to the full. That’s why we are careful to offer a wide and well-balanced range of products that attracts health-conscious customers and inspires them to fully enjoy our products and savour their true exclusivity.
Our latest measures for improved sustainability
Sprüngli helps cacao farmers and their families access professional healthcare
For our grand cru chocolate, we procure fine cacao varieties from the world’s best growing regions. This allows us to promote sustainable and responsible production and actively show our commitment to cacao farmers’ health and well-being.
By covering health insurance and directly funding critical treatments and medicines, we help cacao farmers and their families access professional healthcare.

10 centimes for the environment
Sprüngli’s white-and-blue plastic bags have achieved cult status with many of our customers. Our plastic bags are produced using recycled material, and we also encourage customers to use them many times over. The innovative material means our bags can be reused up to 50 times, allowing every customer to contribute to the more sustainable use of raw materials. Our high-quality paper carrier bags made of 100% FSC paper can also be used multiple times.
To build on this sustainable strategy, we want to further care for the environment by encouraging customers to think more carefully about using our bags. We therefore charge a symbolic price of 10 cents for every Sprüngli shopping bag, whether plastic or paper. This measure lets us work together to reduce the unnecessary use of energy and raw materials, and produce less waste. The proceeds from selling our shopping bags are donated entirely to sustainability projects, like the projects «Akwaaba» in Ghana, «Salud sur del Lago» in Venezuela and «Salud Esmeraldas» in Ecuador.
Food waste
We are passionate about creating products for moments of pure indulgence. We create these indulgent moments by hand and with love, using only the very best, premium quality ingredients and following recipes handed down over generations. We truly respect the ingredients we use, so when it comes to food waste, we follow the «Avoid, Reduce, Recycle’ rule».
Energy efficiency
We need energy to produce and refrigerate our products. Our ovens and cold storage facilities are in operation 24/7. That’s why, in 2014, we entered into a voluntary agreement with the federal government to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption. Our refrigeration systems were completely replaced and new ovens purchased, which optimised the use of the energy produced. The energy concept also covers lighting and ventilation, and of course the monitoring of all these measures with the help of a modern energy monitoring system.
